Saturdays AFC matchup: Bengals @ Texans

Texans Overview:

Led by perhaps the most dynamic run game in the NFL this season, a unlikely tandem of Arian Foster and unheralded Ben Tate. The Texans, who overcame season ending injuries to star players DE/LB Mario Williams and QB Matt Schaub and often injured all-pro WR Andre Johnson, are making their first playoffs in franchise history. (The season ending injury to Colts Star Peyton Manning, also, clearly helped open the door for a playoff run aswell). The team is averging an asstounding 153 rush yds/game. Fosters, NFL's 3rd ranked player from scrimage with 1841 yds, is the workhorse. But Tate who came up big early in the season when Foster was nursing a hamstring injury, is well on his way to great NFL career. Look for the Texans to utilize a potent rushing attack and a versatile rookie scrambling QB in TJ Yates, to out manuvere a good defense in the Bengals. who's big achilles heal is there defensive run game, whos giving up 104 yds on the ground/game.

Bengals Overview:

Clearly this was one of the surprising teams this season. After parting ways with longtime egocentrical WR Chad Ochocinco, and finally caving in on Overhyped QB Carson Palmers, trade request, The Bengals chose to go young this season, starting rookie second round QB Andy Dalton and using Super Rook WR AJ Green as his go to man. The Bengals clearly have saved longtime coach Marv Lewis from being ousted after 8 frusterarating seasons. Maybe the offseason contract extenstion gave him and his players a since of belief and faith from the upper management. But look for the impressive season to come to an end at the hand of the Texans. The bengals shotty run defense and sub-par pass defense will surcomb to a highly motivated and energized Texan team, whose fans will be loud and hyped being in the playoffs for the first time since Warren Moon wore the helmet of the Oilers. But in no way is this a loss that should any negative affect on the teams forward progress. Look for Dalton and Green to lead these guys to a nice 8-10 year run.

Prediction: Texans 28 Bengals 17

Look for this game to be very close for most of the game, but by the fourth quarter the ground and pound rushing attack of the Texans will overmatch and finally slow down the defense of the Bengals. A few Rookie mistakes by Dalton will cap off the game and season for the surprising Bengals. Texans win there first playoff game in franchise history.

Saturdays NFC Wildcard

Lions@Saints

Saints Overview:

The 13-3 Saints are led by the most dynamic Passing attack in NFL history, with little man Drew Brees season after season putting up numbers that would even give legendary Dan Marino wet dreams. His astounding 71% completion rating and 46TD passes, only is subpar compared to the 5476 yards he passed for this season. Brees clearly is in a league of his own, and needs to be given his due as on of the games all-time greats, it just hurts that he's playing in an era of Manning, Brady and now Rodgers. He regularly completes passes to 7 or 8 different recievers per game, usually lead by All-pro WR Marques Colston and Super star TE Jimmy Grahm. The offense is a well oiled machine who overcomes a lackluster defense on regular occasions. Spearheaded by a run game consisting of who ever coach feels he wants to play on a week by week basis, the passing game makes up for it. Little man Darren Sproles is the lead rusher with just a squint over 600 yards this season on the ground, but is a force catching the ball, and returning the ball on punts and kicks. Also Look for Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory, whose stepped in for often injured Rookie Mark Ingram, to make a splash in this game on Detroits shaky run defense, stepping in . The defense struggles and could let this game stay close with high powered offense Detroit coming in to the dome. But look for the 8-0 home record and highly tuned up fans to stop any charge from the Lions.

Detroit Overview:

Yes this is not a typo, The Detroit Lions are in the playoffs for the first since Barry Sanders graced the field in 1998. Making a huge splash late last season and a 6-0 start to this one, the Lions held on and cruised to a 6 seed in the playoffs, even though losing to Green Bays third string in week 17, the fans and staff still have there heads up and are looking for a Saints collapse, alla 2011 first round Loss to the woeful 7-9 Seahawks. Lions are Led by 3rd year QB and Pro Bowl dissed Mathew Stafford, whos 41TD passes and 5,038 yds passing are new Lions records. Clearly the Lions struck gold on this #1 pick from 2009, and look to build on that golden arm for the next decade to come. His main target is WR Calvin "megatron" Johnson, whom is the only non bust draft choice from the legendary dismal Millen era. Good one Matt Millen you got one pick right out of at least 30. No wonder ESPN hired you back. Johnson Thrived this season finally having someone throwing him the ball with a stellar 96 reception and 1681 yards. With a lions record 16TD. Hes clearly become the leagues most deadliest weapon at WR. TE Brandon Pettigrew grew into a nice home this season as a pass catching phenom with 83 receptions. The offensive line is solid with a tandem thats been together for years now and just need a healthy running back to boost. Often injured Jahvid Best and Kevin Smith will handle the load, and look for Morris to get some carries as well. The defense is lead by league bad boy Ndomakung Suh whose passion for hurting people has lead to several fines and finally a two game suspension after the foot stomp heard round the world. Kyle vanden Bosch anchors the DE. A surprisingly ball hungry crew of young fast and big DBs, lead by S Delmas, and CB Houston, will have there handfulls stopping the passing machine of the Saints, but if any team can do it, the pass rushing beasts and turnover studs from Detroit well have a good shot.

Game Prediction: Saints 44 Lions 28

Look for the Lions to keep it close early, but the experienced Saints will come away with the win. Overmatching the Lions offense in the second half, and utilizing a loud crowd and hungry defense to stop the Lions potent offense enough times to where the Saints will have a scoring barrage that cant be matched in this game nor by any team playing in the Saints superdome.
